Sojo in the Portuguese-speaking nation of Portugal is a small seaside town nestled in a pine-forested area in the heart of Lisbon.
This is the resort where the legendary singer-songwriter, Jacare Sorrentino, who died in 2008, once lived.
Sojo was the scene of one of the most iconic nightclub nights in Portugal, with performances from bands including The Black Eyed Peas, the Strokes, The Cure, and The Killers.
The venue was known for its spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, but this year, the city of Njal has closed its doors.
The reason for the closure has yet to be explained.
On Thursday, the local government announced that all public spaces were to close at 3pm on Friday, as well as the municipal offices and all public buildings.
The closure was announced on social media by local mayor of the city, Ricardo Rodríguez Pérez.
The closure was also announced on the Facebook page of the municipality, with the hashtag, #CasaVilaNj, referring to the venue.
“It is with regret that we announce that Sojo has closed this evening for a period of three weeks,” the municipality wrote in a statement.
“The city of Sojo will not be able to handle this situation and will be unable to offer any services to the public.”
Local officials have not yet provided a reason for closing the venue, and so far, there has been no official comment from the government.
“This was a decision taken by the mayor,” Mayor Rodrigo Rodrigues told the local news outlet O Jogo in a phone interview.
“We have not made any comment at this stage.”
Rodrigues said he has asked the municipality to issue a statement clarifying what is going on, as the closure is “not just for the city”.
The venue, which was opened in 2002 and has remained a popular destination for music lovers since, is now being used as a tourist attraction, with some bars offering free tours.
The town of Nijal, where the venue is located, has a population of just 7,000, with tourists coming from as far away as China, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and New Zealand.
The city has recently been plagued by problems.
Last year, residents reported that the venue had become overcrowded, with people camping out in the middle of the night, and people drinking and using drugs.
In 2016, a fire in the building left some people homeless and damaged the property.
